One of just 48 schools in the UK, the accreditation reflects the priority given to integrating digital technology into the heart of teaching and learning at Downe House. Over the past year, the enormously successful Digital Strategy based on the Microsoft Office 365 platform saw a comprehensive staff training programme which enabled 39 staff to achieve MIEE accreditation, the highest number of MIEE staff in any school in the UK with many more working towards the award. In addition, the phased roll-out of the MS Surface programme to all year groups meant that every pupil from Remove (Y7) to Lower Fifth (Y10) had their own Microsoft Surface. From September 2020, this has been rolled out to the Lower Sixth and thus by September 2021, every girl in the School (approximately 600 pupils) will be using the Microsoft Surface. Of course, the ultimate achievement of the year was the smooth transition to online teaching and learning during the lockdown, in no small part thanks to the Microsoft Education technologies and our digital capacity.
