Festival of Culture 2024

29 April 2024

On the last weekend of April, we held our annual festival to celebrate every culture that makes up our community. Our thanks to Natalie in the Lower Fifth (Year 10) for her write-up of the festival.

Our Festival of Culture started with a Murray Music Moment which featured music from different cultures all around the world. The diverse range of music showcased was a great opportunity for students to express their passion and pride for their culture. There were different activities every day to participate in during break and lunch times, which were very popular.

On Friday evening, the International Film Festival took place in Houses, consisting of short films from different continents. It showed us the different ways films are made or popular themes in different cultures. The students vote on their favourite film, with the House with the most participation winning a prize. Congratulations to the joint winners, Holcombe House and Sixth Form!

Another all-time favourite event with the students are the Henna designs, the popularity of this event not having decreased from last year with a total of 40 signups. Henna originated in the Middle East and North America and spread across Asia thousands of years ago.

The House Continent presentations and Fashion Show on Saturday evening concluded our celebrations and was a key highlight of the week. Models walked the catwalk representing their countries in traditional dress. Well done to Aisholt for winning the presentation!
