The creative arts trip to Copenhagen was an exciting opportunity to explore a wide range of art, culture and creative expression outside of the classroom. Across 4 days, we visited galleries, museums, and creative spaces, while also having the chance to photograph the city’s distinctive architecture and street life.
We started at the Louisiana Museum of Modern art, just outside Copenhagen where we explored its impressive collection and sculpture garden overlooking the sea. The combination of contemporary artwork, nature and architecture provided plenty of inspiration for our own creative work.
On day two we visited The Carlsberg Glyptoteket Museum, where a guided tour introduced us to its fascinating collection, including ancient Egyptian artefacts and sculptures as well as a Fashion in the Roman Empire exhibition. In the afternoon we were treated to a graffiti tour and workshop, learning about Copenhagen Street art and experimenting with our own spray paint designs on a large section of wall in the vibrant Nørrebro district.
The following day took us to Arken Museum of Contemporary Art, where we saw the epic Thomas Dambo Troll exhibition as well as numerous other high-impact installations. After a boat ride and lunch at Reffen Street Food market, we visited Copenhagen Contemporary, where we had a tour of ‘Fire and Ice,’ an exhibition exploring Greenland and its culture.
On our final day we visited Copenhagen’s impressive aquarium, which provided a different source of visual inspiration.
Overall, the trip allowed us to experience a broad range of Art first-hand and develop our creativity beyond Downe House. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Lamont, Mrs Mortimer and Miss Bloor for organising and taking us on such a wonderful and memorable trip!
