We are hugely proud of our pupils who are celebrating an impressively strong set of GCSE results today.
This year, 84% of passes were graded 9-7 (the equivalent of A* or A), with 42% of passes at grade 9 and 68% at grades 9 or 8. (These percentages are expected to rise as re-marks and adjustments are made, and a complete overview of all our results will be published on our website by early October.)
We are delighted for all our pupils for whom commitment to their studies, along with the support and encouragement of their teachers and families, has been rewarded.
This talented and enthusiastic group of girls is to be congratulated for their academic achievements and, just as importantly, for their contributions to wider school life – in sport, creative and performing arts, co-curricular activities and representing their Houses.
In addition to success in the core subjects, we are delighted to have seen impressive results across the curriculum.
Results were strong across all subject areas, with some particular highlights being English, with 79% of students scoring a grade 9 or 8; Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, Italian, Chinese and Russian) combined with 71% at grade 9 or 8; Latin with 100% at grade 9 or 8; and Creative Arts (Art, 3D Design and Textiles) with 85% at grade 9 or 8. Across the Sciences, 81% of students achieved grades 9 to 7, and 100% of Drama students were awarded grade 7 or above.
Some stand-out individual achievements were Gabrielle Y, who achieved grade 9s across 13 subjects; Jia C and Chloe J, who secured 12 grade 9s each; and Lucy Y, who was awarded 11 grade 9s.
The girls are now set to return to school to begin two exciting years in our vibrant Sixth Form, where they will be joined at the start of term by a significant number of new students who have chosen Downe House for their A Level studies.
I would like to congratulate the GCSE class of 2026 on their outstanding results. I am extremely proud of the excellent grades achieved in every subject area which is reflective of the girls’ commitment and dedication to their studies. They should now move on to their A level studies with confidence and I am in no doubt that they will experience similar high levels of success.
