I am thrilled to invite colleagues, educators, and thought leaders from across the education sector to join us at Downe House on Wednesday 17 June for what promises to be a truly inspiring, fun and thought-provoking Academic Conference.
Our theme this year is THE BRIGHT SIDE OF EDUCATION: Illuminating what schools do brilliantly to deliver opportunity, build character and inspire futures. In a time of rapid change—social, technological, environmental— this positive approach to education could not be more needed.
An objective of the Conference is to bring together educators from across the maintained and independent sectors so that we learn from each other: our programme of guest speakers and breakout session leaders is tailored to deliver just that – with a focus on all that schools do well to bring a sense of joy and excitement to learning, and the plethora of opportunities they deliver, to build character, spark interest and support talent.
We are delighted that Miranda Hart, actress, comedian, writer and Downe House alumna, will be our keynote speaker – offering her reflections on education, and views on what schools can do to support pupils holistically and build character.
Our programme will also feature a rich line-up of outstanding leaders from the education and business sectors who will talk on a range of themes relevant to today’s education landscape. Each session will be designed to offer both strategic insight and practical takeaways.
One of the sessions I am particularly looking forward to is our panel discussion with Alastair Land (Headmaster of Harrow), Emma McKendrick (Headmistress of Downe House), and Nicola Murphy (Founder and CEO of The River Group), discussing what schools should be doing to prepare young people for their futures – chaired by Tori Cadogan, Education Editor at Tatler.
Of course, Downe House hospitality will be on full display: your ticket includes a delicious lunch, providing the perfect setting for informal conversations and excellent networking opportunities with peers and sector leaders alike.
Whether you are a school leader, classroom teacher, governor, or simply someone passionate about the future of education, this is an event not to be missed. Come and join us as we reflect on what should be preserved, what must evolve, and how we can work together to shape the schools of tomorrow.
We look forward to welcoming you on 17 June. Don’t miss out: book your place now!
