Celebrating Oxbridge success

Congratulations to the eight girls who have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

4 February 2020

In total, 22 girls from Downe House applied through the Oxbridge application process, half of whom were shortlisted and interviewed, which in itself is a huge achievement in what has become a very competitive arena. Five offers from Cambridge and a further three from Oxford include places to study English, Maths, Biology, History, AMES and History of Art.  Congratulations to Alex, Molly, Risa, Michelle, Alessandra, Katy, Nina and Milly!

Oxbridge offers are typically made before other British universities but 80% of girls in the Upper Sixth at Downe House have already received at least three offers from universities in the UK and 35% of them have received four or more offers. In addition, two early decision places have been secured with universities in the USA. All the girls at Downe House are supported by the Higher Education Department which provides a comprehensive programme starting at the beginning of the Lower Sixth to guide and support girls with their university applications. Dr Andy Atherton, Director of Research and Academic Enrichment said,

We are absolutely delighted for all the girls who have received university offers so far. I would like to thank the Higher Education team and all the tutors who have clearly done such a great job in guiding and supporting the girls through the process of applying to university. It is a great privilege to be part of their journey onto the next stage of their education beyond Downe House.
