In Harmony sing at Evensong in the magnificent Winchester Cathedral

25 March 2019

In Harmony, the auditioned chamber choir open to Lower Fourth and Lower Fifth, were offered a unique opportunity to sing at Evensong in the beautiful setting of the magnificent Winchester Cathedral. The group of twenty five girls sang with poise and precision and of course, the fantastic acoustics produced by its soaring architecture enhanced this incredible musical experience.

The Evensong attracted an audience of about 60 people as well as the Dean of Stuttgart and other visitors to the cathedral who all thoroughly enjoyed the concert. In Harmony performed Preces And Responses by David Terry, the Canticles: Berkshire Service by Archer and anthem, Of the Father’s Love by Simon Lole and were accompanied by the Assistant Organist at Winchester Cathedral who also happens to be the Visiting Organ Teacher at Downe House. Two girls were particularly fortunate to be able to play the Cathedral organ before and after the service which is a huge privilege.

Director of Music, Dr Charlotte Exon said, “We were all very proud of how beautifully the girls sang at Evensong in Winchester Cathedral. I truly think that it is an experience that these young choristers will never forget!”
