Celebrating our Musicians
On Sunday 1 March, Downe House hosted its annual Young Musician of the Year competition, an exciting event giving talented students the chance to showcase their skills across multiple categories.
Deborah J (UV / Year 11) reflected on the Maestro section, saying,
The standard was outstanding, and it was lovely to see how passionate the performers all were through their facial expressions. A huge congratulations to Petra for winning her section; really well deserved!
The competition featured performances across different genres, from jazz saxophone to emotional musical theatre. Jia C (UV / Year 11), who took part in the Virtuoso category, shared,
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the wide range of performances and was delighted to receive the Director of Music’s Prize at the end. It was an unforgettable experience.
Annie (LV / Year 10), Ada (LV / Year 10) and Charlotte (LV / Year 10) impressed in the Virtuoso finals, while Kitty (UV / Year 11) won her category in the Music Residency finale!
The week also featured orchestral performances and a packed Live Lounge event, where Gigi and Danielle (LV / Year 10) performed to a captivated audience, demonstrating not just talent but confidence and teamwork.
The Young Musician of the Year 2026 was a celebration of creativity, dedication and the joy of music, leaving performers and audiences alike inspired and proud.
