From Singapore to Berkshire, and now on to St Andrews, the world is a stage for Emilia, a passionate performer and confident leader who served Downe House as Head Senior in her final year. As a Drama Scholar and Geraldine James Scholar, Emilia has contributed significantly to school life, inspiring others with her creativity, dedication, and warmth.

Q&A 

What were you most involved in at school?
Drama has been at the heart of my Downe House experience. I took part in many productions as a Drama Scholar and Geraldine James Scholar, each one a joyful and inspiring challenge. The department’s support and the friendships I made along the way made every performance unforgettable. 

What achievement are you most proud of?
Becoming Head Senior. It was an incredible honour to take on a leadership role and contribute to the Downe House community in a meaningful way. 

Who inspired you the most?
The Drama Department and my friends. The teachers’ unwavering enthusiasm and support made me feel empowered to grow, while my friends were there every step of the way, encouraging and inspiring me. 

Favourite memory?
Seeing my friends for the first time after being away in Singapore for a year because of COVID — it was an emotional and joyful reunion that I’ll never forget. 

Best thing about Downe?
The York House staff. Their kindness, grounding presence, and dedication to making us feel safe created a wonderful environment to thrive in. 

What has Downe House given you?
Belief in myself and self-drive. Downe House encourages you to pursue your passions while helping you grow as an independent, confident individual. 

Advice to a girl starting in September?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Recognising your limits and boundaries is admirable, and support is always there when you need it.

Teleportation 

Future plans?
I dream of becoming a screenwriter and director, creating stories that inspire and entertain.
