Our Head Senior, Hettie, and Deputy Head Senior, Rose, share their vision and plans for the year ahead. They reflect on the exciting start to the term, their leadership priorities, and the initiatives they hope will inspire and engage the whole school community.
Hello, my name is Hettie and I am very excited to be Head Senior this year. Rose and I, with the help of the senior team, have been thinking carefully about our aims for the school and how we might bring them to life. We kicked off the year with a whole-school integration game called ‘Assassins’, a dramatic and fun day that also raised money for our school charity, MND. This event tied into our primary aim for the year: promoting integration, both within our school community and beyond.
Following a personal interest of mine, Daisy M and I have also brought together a group of staff and students to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April 2026. Many of our runners are new to the sport, and we are excited to begin training. We hope to raise almost £17,000 for Tommy’s charity through this challenge.
Alongside these leadership roles, I take Biology, Economics, and Geography for my A Levels, and I have a passion for music. I am currently dedicating a lot of time to practicing for the upcoming Michaelmas Concert and Carol Services, which are always a highlight of the term. This year promises to be an exciting and rewarding one.
Now, over to Rose…
Hello, my name is Rose, and I am delighted to serve as Deputy Head Senior this year. My key aim in this role is to promote a genuine love of learning throughout the school, encouraging every student to embrace curiosity, creativity, and confidence in all they do. This is part of our broader senior aims, which Hettie and I, together with the senior team, will be working towards throughout the year.
One of the things I value most about Down House is our remarkable sense of community, where every individual is supported and has the opportunity for their voice to be heard. During my time as Deputy Head Senior, I hope to place particular emphasis on student voice. While I receive feedback through our weekly School Council meetings, I aim to create even more opportunities for students to share their ideas and opinions throughout the year.
We are especially looking forward to Happy Day, our annual day of fun and collaboration across the school. Planning is already underway, and we are gathering feedback to ensure the day reflects the interests and preferences of all students.
In addition, I have a particular passion for Drama, which aligns with my A-levels in History, English, and Drama. I am very excited for the upcoming House Drama competition just before Half Term.
We’ve already had a busy and rewarding start to the term, and we are excited for all the exciting opportunities and events ahead!
The best way to find out more about Downe House is to experience it for yourself. Book a personal tour or join us at one of our Open Mornings, available throughout the year.
