Geography A Level Fieldtrip to Devon

1 June 2025

Written by Mrs Nicola Price, Head of Geography.

The Lower Sixth Geography field trip to Slapton in Devon was an unforgettable experience, enhanced by beautiful sea views and stunning scenery. We studied carbon sequestration techniques in the local woodland, coastal erosion and the effectiveness of sea defences in Beesands and Torcross, as well as evaluating the impacts of regeneration in Plymouth.

The Lower Sixth Geographers were fantastic throughout their field trip to Slapton. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the week was filled with laughter, high spirits, and plenty of geography discussions about their NEA plans. We were delighted to hear these conversations throughout each day—while walking along the coastline, ambling through the streets of Totnes, and into the evening. We even managed to celebrate a birthday as well!

Amelia Voûte, Lower Sixth

A highlight of the trip was conducting our own small investigation in the wonderful town of Totnes. Each day came with new fieldwork techniques broadening our knowledge for the individual NEAs and data collection. The evenings were spent developing our NEA questions and bonding with other schools in the field centre through ping pong games.

The constant coast views, the wonderfully unique market at Totnes and the enchanting ancient forests allowed us to appreciate Geography and nature at its finest.
