The annual ARTiculation Presentation Evening provides a forum for Lower Sixth girls to express their ideas on their favourite works of art and architecture.

22 January 2019

A very enjoyable evening was had by both presenters and audience alike who were treated to a fascinating range of subject matter in nine presentations. The topics ranged from Damien Hirst’s ‘Treasures from the Unbelievable’ by Sasha and ‘Frei Otto’s Ohohaus’ presented by Anna to ‘Leornardo da Vinci’s Last Supper’ by Jess and ‘Skyscrapers’ by Emma.

Murray Centre Director, Mrs Toogood and Teacher of History and Politics, Mr Wise were the adjudicators and had the difficult task of choosing the best presentations out of an excellent field.

A special commendation was awarded to Victoria for a well-contextualised presentation on Paco Rabanne and the runner-up prize was awarded to Anna for a very well researched topic on Yves Klein’s obsession with blue and a sensitive exploration of the power of abstract art. The overall winner was Lu Min for a well-informed and particularly personal response – exploring Said’s batiks in connection with the folk tales and culture of her upbringing.

Mrs Toogood said, “We were very impressed by the high standard of presentations by the Lower Sixth girls and the variety of their topics and I think that everyone has learned something this evening.” ARTiculation has become a highly successful initiative in schools across the UK and is all about giving young people an opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas about art. Well done to all the girls who delivered such interesting and articulate presentations and special congratulations to the winner, Anna, who really went the extra mile in their research and preparation.

ARTiculation is the Roche Court Educational Trust’s national and international public speaking initiative, championing the appreciation and discussion of art in schools everywhere.
