A cake sale and stand up paddle boarding
This week the girls organised a charity cake sale for a local hospital, raising nearly 1500 euros and also spent an afternoon paddle boarding on the river.
La Vente des Gâteaux

La semaine dernière, nous avons organisé une vente des gâteaux qui a eu lieu samedi au supermarché Carrefour a Cenac. Vendredi, nous avons fait les produits– des brownies, des flapjacks, des cookies et de la pizza. L’argent récolté est pour Hôpital Sourire. Sophie, Angela, Ella et moi avons préparé deux tableaux noirs avec une liste des gâteaux – il y avait beaucoup de choix! Tous les gâteaux coutaient un euro, un euro cinquante ou deux euros. J’étais dans le troisième groupe pour aller à la vente avec Theo, Minty et Iona. En premier, j’avais très peur de parler français, donc j’ai aidé à mettre les gâteaux dans des boites. Après un moment, j’ai essayé de parler avec les clients et j’ai commencé à prendre confiance. La vente des gâteaux s’est bien déroulée et notre groupe était très fier. Au total, nous avons fait 1186,48€, un nouveau record! Le long du trimestre, nous avons organisé d’autres activités pour notre charité. Pour le spa, nous avons fait 220,87€, pour la Journée à Thème 33,77€ et le pot de bonbons a récolté 29,50€. En tout, nous avons fait 1470,62€ et nous étions toutes très heureuses de présenter un chèque au Président de l’œuvre caritatif et a son collègue quand ils nous ont rendu visite.
Last week, we organised a cake sale which took place on Saturday at the Carrefour supermarket in Cenac. On Friday, we made the goods – brownies, flapjacks, cookies and pizza. The money raised is for Hôpital Sourire. Sophie Li, Angela, Ella Snow and I prepared two blackboards with a list of cakes – there was lots of choice! All the cakes cost one euro, one euro fifty or two euros. I was in the third group to go to the sale with Theo, Minty and Iona. At first, I was very scared to speak French, so I helped to put the cakes in boxes. After a while, I tried to speak to the customers and I started to feel more confident. The cake sale sent very well, and our group was very proud. In total, we raised 1186,48€., a new record! Throughout the term, we organised other activities for our charity. For the spa, we made 220,87€, for the Theme Day 33,77€ and the sweetie jar raised 29,50€. Overall, we made 1470,62€ and we were all very happy to present a cheque to the President of the charity, and his colleague, when they visited us.
Le Stand Up Paddle

Hier, nous avons fait du SUP sur la Dordogne avec Monsieur Merchadou et Madame Rodrigo. Il faisait très chaud, mais la rivière était très froide! En premier, le moniteur a expliqué la technique et une dame m’a donné un gilet de sauvetage et une pagaie. Nous avons descendu la rivière et je suis tombée dans l’eau à cause de Minty! A mi-chemin, nous avons fait une pause et puis nous avons continué. J’adore le stand-up paddle! Après deux heures, nous sommes revenues à Veyrines dans le minibus et nous sommes montées dans notre dortoir où nous avons pris une douche. Je pense que c’était ma sortie préférée, et je voudrais y retourner!
Yesterday, we did paddle boarding with Monsieur Merchadou and Madame Rodrigo. It was very hot, but the river was very cold! First, the instructor explained the technique and a lady gave me a life jacket and a paddle. We went down the river and I fell in the water, because of Minty! Half way, we had a rest and then we continued. I love paddle boarding! After two hours, we came back to Veyrines in the minibus and we went up to our dorms where we had a shower. I think that it was my favourite sortie and I would like to go back!
Tree climbing and a farm visit
This week the girls spent lots of time outdoors including a visit to an organic farm and a challenging tree climbing afternoon in the village
La Grimpe d’Arbre

Samedi après-midi, nous avons fait de la grimpe d’arbre. Dans mon groupe, il y avait Tara, Eloise, Clemmie R, Minty, Ruby et Peyton. Avant de commencer à monter dans l’arbre, l’instructeur, Cédric, nous a parlé. J’ai porté un harnais et j’ai dû tirer sur des cordes pour monter. Au début, je n’étais pas très agile et je suis souvent tombée. Pourtant, finalement, j’ai réussi à atteindre la cime, où je me suis assise sur une branche et j’ai parlé avec Clemmie et Eloise. Après, je suis descendue de l’arbre et je me suis faite mal aux doigts. J’étais brulé par la corde! Néanmoins, la grimpe d’arbre était fantastique et j’ai passé un bon moment.
On Saturday afternoon, we went tree climbing. In my group there was Tara, Eloise, Clemmie R, Minty, Ruby and Peyton. Before starting to climb the tree, the instructor, Cédric, spoke to us. I wore a harness and I had to pull on the ropes to go up. At the start, I was not very agile, and I fell quite often. However, I finally succeeded in getting to the top of the tree, where I sat on a branch and talked to Clemmie and Eloise. Afterwards, I came down the tree and I hurt my fingers. I was burnt by the rope! Nevertheless, tree climbing was fantastic and I had a great time.
La Ferme du Clédou

Lundi matin, nous sommes toutes allées à une ferme. Quand nous sommes arrivées, nous avons rencontré Stéphanie, la propriétaire, qui nous a fait un tour de la ferme. Pendant la promenade, nous avons arrêté pour goûter les plantes sauvages. Certaines étaient comestibles et d’autres étaient parfumées. Nous avons toutes goûté les plantes comestibles, comme les champignons, la moutarde, les graines et les fraises sauvages. A la fin, nous avons visité le petit magasin. J’ai acheté un pot de Délice de marrons pour mes parents. Après, nous avons caressé les ânes. Ils étaient très gentils et calmes.
On Monday morning, we all went to a farm. When we arrived, we met Stéphanie, the owner, who gave us a tour of the farm. During the walk, we stopped to taste wild plants. Some were edible and others were perfumed. We all tasted the edible plants, like mushrooms, mustard, seeds and wild strawberries. At the end, we visited the little shop. I bought a pot of chestnut délice for my parents. Afterwards, we petted the donkeys. They were very sweet and calm.
A prehistoric maze and a cave visit
A gondola ride through caves and a prehistoric mirror maze were highlights this week.
Le Gouffre de Proumeyssac

Pour une sortie de SVT, nous sommes allées au Gouffre de Proumeyssac. Le gouffre était decouvert en 1907 et les premiers touristes ont visité en 1924. Nous sommes entrées dans le gouffre par un tunnel, mais il y a aussi une petite nacelle qui descend du plafond. Il y avait un spectacle son et lumière et j’ai vu des stalactites et stalagmites, qui sont des colonnes en calcaire. Il y avait aussi des formations comme la Méduse, la Sirène, la Cascade et la Pieuvre. Le gouffre était fantastique et j’ai beaucoup appris. J’adore les grottes!
For a Science sortie, we went to the Gouffre de Proumeyssac. The cave was discovered in 1907 and the first tourists visited in 1924. We went into the cave through a tunnel, but there is also a small gondola which comes down from the ceiling. There was a sound and light show and I saw stalactites and stalagmites, which are columns of limestone. There were also formations like the Jellyfish, the Mermaid, The Waterfall and the Octopus. The cave was fantastic and I learnt a lot. I love caves!
Le Labyrinthe Préhistorique

Samedi après-midi, nous sommes allées à un labyrinthe préhistorique. Nous étions dans 3 équipes. Dans la première partie, nous avons dû trouver des artefacts dans la salle de l’explorateur pour répondre aux questions. C’était difficile, mais nous avons finalement réussi. Ensuite, nous avons traversé la partie avec des animaux. Tout le monde a eu peur! Quand nous étions là, nous avons répondu à encore de questions. Les animaux avaient l’air vraiment réel et ils étaient de la taille réelle. Puis, nous sommes allés au labyrinthe des miroirs qui était mon préféré. Nous nous sommes toutes tenues l’un à l’autre, mais il était si effrayant quand les lumières se sont éteintes que tout le monde a crié! Il était nécessaire de trouver l’homme des cavernes caché pour sortir mais il était très déroutant car il y avait des hologrammes et tout le monde s’est écrasé dans des miroirs. Ensuite, nous avons dû aller dans une autre pièce où nous avons répondu aux questions. Finalement, nous avons dû traverser un labyrinthe. La sortie était très amusante et nous avons toutes reçu une récompense à la fin.
On Saturday afternoon, we went to a prehistoric maze. We were in three teams. In the first part, we had to find objects in the explorer’s room to answer the questions. It was difficult, but we eventually succeeded. Next, we went through the area with animals. Everyone was scared! Whilst we were there, we had to answer more questions. The animals looked real, and they were life-size. Then, we went to the mirror maze, which was my favourite. We all held onto each other, but it was so frightening when the lights went out that everyone screamed! To get out, we had to find the hidden caveman but it was very confusing because there were holograms and everyone bumped into the mirrors. Next, we had to go into another room, where we answered questions. Finally, we had to get through a maze. The sortie was very good fun and we all got a reward at the end.
Teaching at a primary school and going to Futuroscope
For the third week of the Summer Term 2019, the girls taught English at a local primary school and went to Futuroscope, the only amusement park of its kind.
L’École Primaire

La semaine dernière, nous sommes allées à l’école primaire. Mon groupe était Clemmie M, Theo et Ella Snow. La visite était très amusante! Nous avons appris aux enfants comment dire des différents fruits en anglais, par exemple le kiwi et le pamplemousse. Ensuite, nous avons enseigné des ingrédients. Nous avons joué aux jeux et nous avons chanté une chanson. Nous avons passé un bon moment et les enfants étaient adorables!
Last week, we went to the primary school. My group was Clemmie, Theo and Ella. The visit was great fun! We taught the children how to say different fruits in English, for example kiwi and grapefruit. Next, we taught some ingredients. We played games and we sang a song. We had a good time and the children were adorable!
Futuroscope

Mardi matin, je me suis levée à 6h! Puis, j’ai pris mon petit-déjeuner mais j’étais très fatiguée! Dans le car, je me suis assise avec Emily et le voyage a duré cinq heures mais il était amusant. Nous sommes arrivés au Parc Futuroscope à 12h30 et nous sommes allés directement à un restaurant. J’ai choisi une pizza et j’ai bu un coca. C’était délicieux! Après avoir mangé, nous sommes alles à un cinéma et nous avons vu un film au sujet d’un astronaute Français qui s’appelle Thomas Pesquet. Après, nous avons visité l’attraction Age de Glace, qui était un simulateur et c’était très cool! Mes attractions préférées ce jour-là s’appelaient Arthur (il était très effrayant, mais amusant) et Danse avec les Robots (car nous nous sommes retournées à l’envers!) Le soir, nous sommes arrivés à l’hôtel où j’ai partagé une chambre avec Emily. C’était très amusant et j’ai bien dormi. Le lendemain matin, je me suis réveillée à 8h, et j’ai pris mon petit-déjeuner avec Ottilie, Izzy et Emily. Nous sommes retournés au Futuroscope à 9h. Heureusement, il n’y avait pas beaucoup de monde et nous avons pu faire beaucoup d’attractions sans attendre longtemps. La première attraction était les Lapins Crétins, puis nous avons fait le Voyage Extraordinaire qui était un tour du monde en avion. Il y avait aussi des odeurs différentes et des changements de température! Toutes les attractions étaient très amusantes et nous avons aussi beaucoup appris. Par exemple, nous avons visité un planétarium et nous avons regardé un film sur les chocs des astéroïdes et la création de la planète terre. A 12h15, nous avons déjeuné. J’ai pris des pâtes et un coca; c’était très savoureux. Après avoir mangé, nous avons quitté Futuroscope mais je voudrais y retourner. Je n’oublierai jamais le lapin crétin qui m’a poursuivie – j’étais terrifiée! Nous sommes arrivés à Veyrines à 19h30 et après le diner, nous nous sommes couchées parce que nous étions très fatiguées après une sortie fabuleuse!
On Tuesday morning, I got up at six o’clock! Then, I had my breakfast, but I was very tired! In the coach, I sat with Emily and the journey lasted five hours, but it was fun. We arrived at Futuroscope at half past twelves and we went straight to a restaurant. I chose a pizza and I drank a Coke. It was delicious! Having eaten, we went to a cinema and we saw a film about a French astronaut called Thomas Pesquet. Afterwards, we visited the Ice Age ride, a simulator which was very cool! My favourite rides that day were called Arthur (it was very frightening, but fun) and Dance with Robots (because we were turned upside down!) In the evening, we arrived at the hotel where I shared a room with Emily. It was fun, and I slept well. The next morning, I woke up at eight o’clock and I had my breakfast with Ottilie, Izzy and Emily. We returned to Futuroscope at nine o’clock. Fortunately, there were not many people and we were able to do a lot of rides without waiting for long. The first ride was the Rabid Rabbits, then we did the Extraordinary Journey, which was a plane trip around the world. There were different smells and changes in temperature, too! All the rides were fun, and we also learnt a lot. For example, we visited a planetarium and we watched a film about asteroid collisions and the creation of planet Earth. At twelve fifteen, we had lunch. I had pasta and a Coke; it was very tasty. Having eaten, we left Futuroscope, but I would like to go back. I will never forget the Rabid Rabbit who chased me – I was terrified! We arrived in Veyrines at seven thirty and after dinner, we went to bed because we were very tired after a fabulous sortie!
A Trip to Domme and a Circus School
For the second week of the Summer Term 2019, the girls in France visited the beautiful town of Domme as well as trying out circus school!
Une Visite à Domme

Dimanche après-midi, nous sommes alles à une ville qui s’appelle Domme. Nous sommes allées en haut de la colline. La vue était belle! Nous avons pu voir la rivière Dordogne et il y avait des gens qui faisaient du canoë. Sur la colline, il a fait froid. Après, nous sommes allées aux magasins en groupes. J’étais avec Olivia, Ella et Sophie. En premier, nous sommes entrées dans un magasin de glace où j’ai acheté une gaufre au Nutella. Puis, nous sommes allées à un magasin de bijoux où j’ai acheté un bracelet de cheville. Je l’adore! C’est beau! J’ai passé un bon moment à Domme.
On Sunday afternoon, we went to a town called Domme. We went to the top of the cliff. The view was beautiful! We could see the Dordogne river and there were people canoeing. On the cliff, it was cold. Afterwards, we went to the shops in groups. I was with Olivia, Ella and Sophie. First, we went into an ice cream shop where I bought a Nutella waffle. Then, we went to a jewellery shop where I bought an ankle bracelet. I love it! It is beautiful! I had a good time in Domme.
L’École de Cirque

Lundi, nous sommes allées à l’école de cirque. Je n’ai jamais visité une école de cirque avant. Dans le minibus, j’étais assise avec Ruby. Quand nous sommes arrivées, nous avons vu les soies et les cordes dans le plafond. Après avoir fait un échauffement avec nos monitrices Laëtitia et Isabelle, nous avons essayé de monter la corde. J’étais assez mauvaise mais j’ai réussi à aller à l’envers! C’était compliqué, mais très amusant. Ensuite, j’ai essayé le cerceau. J’étais terrifiée et c’était difficile! À la fin, Laëtitia a fait une démonstration. C’était très impressionnant! Le lendemain matin, mon corps entier était très douloureux mais en conclusion, j’ai passé un très bon moment et je voudrais y retourner.
On Monday, we went to circus school. I have never visited a circus school before. In the minibus, I sat with Ruby. When we arrived, we saw the silks and cords in the ceiling. Having done a warm-up with our instructors, Laëtitia and Isabelle, we tried to climb the rope. I was quite bad, but I managed to go upside down! It was complicated, but a lot of fun. Next, I tried the hoop. I was terrified, and it was difficult! At the end, Laëtitia did a demonstration. It was very impressive! The next morning, my whole body was very sore but, to conclude, I had a very good time and I would like to go back.
A photography workshop and minigolf
In their first week of the Summer Term 2019, the girls in France learned photography and played minigolf.
L’Atelier Photo

Le 27 avril, après le déjeuner, j’ai fait une leçon de photographie avec Monsieur Kirkland. J’ai beaucoup appris sur les techniques différentes. Il faisait chaud et du soleil, donc il était un jour parfait pour prendre des photos de la nature. J’ai pris beaucoup de photos autour Veyrines-de-Domme de différentes fleurs et plantes avec mon portable. J’ai passé un moment génial!
On the 27th of April, after lunch, I did a photography lesson with Mr Kirkland. I learnt a lot about different techniques. It was hot and sunny, so it was a perfect day to take photos of the countryside. I took lots of photos of different flowers and plants around Veyrines-de-Domme on my mobile. I had a fantastic time!
Le Mini-Golf

Dimanche dernier, nous sommes alles au mini-golf. C’était très amusant! Mon groupe était Iona, Ottilie, Clemmie et Lilias. J’ai appris à jouer au mini-golf. Ottilie a gagné, mais j’ai fait un trou en un! Il y avait dix-huit trous avec beaucoup d’animaux et d’obstacles. Nous avons dû frapper la balle dans les trous et nous avons pris deux heures pour le jeu. A la fin, nous avons compté les totales. Après, nous avons mangé une glace et puis nous sommes revenus à Veyrines. Comme c’était très amusant!
Last Sunday, we went to mini-golf. It was a lot of fun! My group was Iona, Ottilie, Clemmie and Lilias. I learnt to play mini-golf. Ottilie won, but I had a hole in one! There were eighteen holes with a lot of animals and obstacles. We had to hit the ball into the holes and the game took us two hours. At the end we counted the totals. Afterwards, we ate an ice cream and then we came back to Veyrines. It was such fun!
