Music for a Summer’s Afternoon

Welcome to the second music concert of Founder’s Weekend 2026!

Today’s concert includes a wide array of different performances including from Chamber Music groups – such as the Flute Ensemble and Cello and Piano Ensemble, to Live Lounge ‘open mic’ performances, String Ensemble, House Music Instrumental ensemble, the Band Club and newly formed Staff Choir! It promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music!

I would like to thank the whole Music team, including our fantastic Visiting Music Teachers, for all of their guidance and encouragement of our students in preparations for this concert.

Our final thanks go to our wonderful musicians for their amazing commitment and contribution to music at Downe House. They have worked incredibly hard throughout this term in preparation for this concert and we hope you enjoy every moment of their performances.

The largest instrumental ensemble at Downe House for intermediate and advanced players, typically ABRSM Grade 5 and above. Performing works from classical to film at the biggest School concerts.
Jazz Band is a jazz ensemble which evolves each year based on its instrumentalists and singers. Typically for ABRSM Grade 4 / 5 and above, they are always a highlight of Founder’s Weekend and perform a variety of jazz classics and modern arrangements.
