Downe House girls interview Jon Sopel

Rosie and Mathilda, who run the Politics Society, interview the BBC’s North America Editor, Jon Sopel

7 July 2021

Student-led clubs and societies are very much a feature of Sixth Form life and girls are encouraged to pursue their passions and what interests them most. For anyone who follows world politics, Jon Sopel will be well known as he is currently the BBC’s North America Editor and was previously Chief Political Correspondent for BBC News and a presenter on the Politics Show. Lower Sixth Form girls, Mathilda and Rosie managed to secure a virtual interview with Jon Sopel and not surprisingly, had a long list of questions for him!

Lower Sixth girl, Rosie said,

As avid Politics students and enthusiasts of all things journalistic, Mathilda and I were thrilled to have the opportunity to interview Jon Sopel. We spoke to Jon about the current state of the USA, especially in relation to the wider world, and about his recent trip to the G7 Conference as well as his own career path. We hope you enjoy watching the interview and if it inspires a deep passion for international relations or being a News Correspondent within you, we would also recommend the Americast podcast he runs with Emily Maitlis. Happy listening!
