Developing World Ready Sixth Form students

Opportunities for learning and personal development beyond the curriculum – a Mini-MBA course, the Ivy House Award and MS Office Specialist Certification

4 May 2021

We are frequently asked what makes a Downe House education unique and the answer often lies in the simply outstanding array of enrichment opportunities on offer which is nowhere more evident than in the World Ready Programme, designed to extend opportunities for learning and personal development beyond the curriculum and traditional co-curricular activities and layered throughout the girls’ journey through the School. A set of three such opportunities designed to develop personal, leadership, life, business and digital skills was recently launched to the Upper Fifth girls and their parents prior to joining the Sixth Form in September.

All girls are enrolled on the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification which ensures that girls are proficient in all the crucial Microsoft Office suite of applications to maximise digital efficiency for study and work, and demonstrates to future employers that they have proven, accredited digital skills.

There are then two options – either a Mini MBA course or the Ivy House Award, both of which allow girls to develop and hone their communication skills, their ability to work in a team, problem-solve and think critically. These so-called ‘soft skills’ will ensure they stand out from the crowd in university or college applications, and in interviews for gap year jobs or internships.

Assistant Head (Sixth Form), Ms Melissa Stimson said,

These are outstanding opportunities for our Sixth Form students to gain valuable and sought-after super-curricular skills and qualifications that will distinguish them as exceptional candidates when moving into the competitive world of higher education and work. Thank you to all the staff involved in the delivery of these exciting programmes and to our partners, Hult Ashridge, Ivy House and Microsoft.
