Lacrosse Champions

Congratulations to both our U15 and 1st Team who were crowned champions at the Berkshire Schools Tournament.

29 September 2023

Earlier this week, we were proud to host the U15 and 1st Team Berkshire Schools Lacrosse Tournament at Downe House School. Our thanks to the teams from Heathfield School, Queen Anne’s School and Phoenix Lacrosse Club who provided tough competition and showed excellent sportsmanship.

In the end, our U15 and 1st Team were crowned champions – well done to all the girls who played so brilliantly. Read on to hear from Miss Charlotte Williams (Assistant Director of Sport) who reports on how our teams played.

The 1st team played with both composure and grit; and it was very encouraging in particular to see the Upper Fifth grow in confidence on the pitch under the guidance and support of the Lower and Upper Sixth girls. This team has a huge amount of potential and their next test will be on Saturday at the South West Schools Tournament, where we will be expecting an even tougher test. It was a real team effort, but special mentions go to Cecilia (Upper Sixth) for her composure and leadership in attack, Annie (Upper Fifth) for her work rate and decision making in attack; as well as Lucinda (Upper Fifth) for her movement and finishing in front of goal.

The 2nd team should also be commended for their performance. They were also competing in the 1st team tournament as the only 2nd team and proved themselves to be a match for anyone. The 2nd team will also be competing on Saturday at the South West Tournament and will be hoping to go one better than last year’s runners up performance!

The U15As despite a number of absences due to illness, rallied together to play their best lacrosse of the season so far, with 3 players making their debut for the A team this season. Everyone stepped up, and it was a joy to see moves from the training pitch being implemented with such effectiveness on game day.

It was great to have so many supporters including parents, sisters and alumnae. A special thank you to Alice and Sasha from Upper Fifth who were responsible for running the tables for each tournament. The event would not have run so smoothly without them – they were fantastic!
