Looking Ahead to Our 2025 Academic Conference – Transforming Tradition

19 أبريل 2025

In this blog post, Mr Matt Godfrey (Deputy Head) gives some details about what we can expect from this year’s much-anticipated Academic Conference at Downe House.

I am thrilled to invite colleagues, educators, and thought leaders from across the education sector to join us at Downe House on Wednesday 18 June for what promises to be a truly inspiring and thought-provoking Academic Conference.

Our theme this year is TRANSFORMING TRADITION: how can schools adapt and innovate to thrive in the future? In a time of rapid change—social, technological, environmental—this question could not be more timely. While tradition provides the strong foundation upon which so many great schools are built, it is equally essential that we remain responsive, forward-thinking and courageous in reimagining the future of education.

We are honoured to welcome The Rt Hon Michael Gove as our keynote speaker. Soon to be Lord Gove of Torry, Mr Gove is a distinguished former Secretary of State for Education, a long-serving Cabinet Minister, and now Editor of The Spectator. His insights into policy, leadership, and the future of education promise to be as incisive as they are inspirational.

Our programme will also feature a rich line-up of expert speakers from both education and business, sharing their perspectives on everything from digital innovation and curriculum reform to leadership and wellbeing. Each session will be designed to offer both strategic insight and practical takeaways.

One of the sessions I am particularly looking forward to is our panel discussion with four young professionals, all in the early stages of their careers. They will offer a fresh and candid perspective on how well their schooling equipped them for the real world. We’re delighted that Louise Eccles, Education Editor at The Sunday Times, will be chairing this conversation—one that I anticipate will challenge and inspire us in equal measure.

Of course, Downe House hospitality will be on full display: your ticket includes a delicious lunch, providing the perfect setting for informal conversations and excellent networking opportunities with peers and sector leaders alike.

Whether you are a school leader, classroom teacher, governor, or simply someone passionate about the future of education, this is an event not to be missed. Come and join us as we reflect on what should be preserved, what must evolve, and how we can work together to shape the schools of tomorrow.

We look forward to welcoming you on 18 June. Don’t miss out: book your place now!
