Welcome to the Addams Family Musical!

The Addams Family Musical encompasses what it means to be an Addams… Love and honesty are paramount but there is always room for a little poison and torture.

So, let me introduce you to the clan. The foreboding family are delightfully eccentric, macabre, grotesque and wholly unconcerned with how bizarre they appear to others. They have grown over the years, starting off as a series of comics in The New Yorker in 1938. Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandma, Fester and Lurch have appeared in TV, films, video games and of course the Musical, their well-known theme music and particularly gothic sense of style has influenced pop culture for eight decades. The music ranges from full on cabaret to sweet and delicate solos that display our wonderful students’ incredible range and talent.

I am incredibly proud to have worked with such versatile, witty and generous performers who have brought heart and soul to every scene. The whole cast and crew have made the huge undertaking (funeral pun intended) of directing a musical so much lighter and brighter.

I knew Addams was an excellent choice for our students, as the Addams credo is Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc – “We gladly feast on those who would subdue us”.

I jest… the Addams family values are of belonging, openness and growth, which is exactly how my lovely cast approached the entire process.

I hope you come out feeling a weird blend of gruesome joy.

Enjoy the show!

Synopsis

The story begins with the meeting of the Addams Family and Wednesday’s potential in-laws, The Beinekes. ‘Potential’ being the key word here, for while Lucas has proposed – Wednesday has yet to tell her mother, Morticia. Thus, leading to lies, half-truths and untold misery.

Everyone gets involved as Mal, Alice and Lucas Beineke get drawn in for an evening of games, stories and trickery. Flanked by the ghostly ancestors, the one normal, informal night is both helped and hindered by the extended Addams tribe.

Thanks

I would like to leave a special message of thanks to Imogen Cowgill, my Choreographer and Assistant Director for having given so much of her time and imagination to the process. Another huge thank you goes to Chris Gill, my Music Director for his support and guidance musically, and giving so much of his time to rehearsals.

Thank you to Barney Ashworth for joining so enthusiastically, and to Nat Bloor for her excellent photography.

Additional thanks must go to Rob Castell, my Producer for troubleshooting issues and paving the way for the show’s success.

As ever, the AV team (George Laing, Vic Dewsbury, Matt Girling, Finn Broomfield) take the seeds of my ideas and turn them into spectacular artistry, their work behind the scenes brings the vision to life and gives life to the undead. Thank you to all four of you for your expertise and hours and hours of work.
