St John’s Concert 2026
House Gym and House Dance brought the term to a close with two high energy events that celebrated leadership, teamwork and the values Downe House encourages in all students.
House Gym opened the week, led by Lower Fifth captains who guided their teams with focus and care. Weeks of practice turned into confident performances, showing how much the girls had supported and inspired each other.
Cher (AGN) took first place in the individual competition with a composed and confident routine. AGS were awarded first place for their group performance and were named overall winners. Izzy (AGN) received the Most Improved Gymnast award, stepping up at the last moment and contributing fully to the team’s success.
Emily (AGS) reflected on the joy of working together as a team and building routines, while Belle (AGN) highlighted the satisfaction of leading, coaching and creating something as a group. Eulalia (Aisholt) described the experience as a chance to take responsibility, collaborate and inspire others. These performances were a clear example of leadership in action, with each girl bringing her values and determination to the floor.
House Dance followed, giving students just one week to audition, choreograph and prepare their routines. Despite the short time, every house delivered performances full of creativity, energy and focus.
Aisholt (Teri, OJ) were recognised for their teamwork and inventive routines. AGS (Pippa, Eloise, Alex, Zoe) won Original Choreography, showing leadership in bringing a vision to life. AGN (Lucie, Cymbelline) were named overall winners as well as taking the award for Repertoire and Development, demonstrating resilience, collaboration and inspiration to their peers.
Johanna (AGN) earned Stand Out Performer and Cecilia (Holcombe) received the Dance Seniors Award, highlighting individual leadership and commitment.
Maddie (AGN) reflected on the pride of delivering a performance in such a short timeframe while supporting her teammates. Sophie (AGS) spoke about how the intensity of rehearsals strengthened connection, teamwork and confidence.
Lower Sixth leaders guided their houses throughout, mentoring and inspiring younger students, supported by professional dancer Bryony Wood. Their leadership and encouragement were visible not only in the choreography but in the confidence and unity of the performers.
House Gym and House Dance were more than competitions. They celebrated determination, leadership and collaboration, showing how students inspire each other, embody strong values and achieve excellence together.
