Remove (Year 7) took part in a speech competition called ‘Speak Out’ to bring to a close their ‘Inspiring Women’ unit of work within English. During their lessons, our pupils looked at the speeches of multiple inspiring women and were tasked with writing their own speeches on something that was important to them.
Every pupil read out their speech in front of the class, to help improve their confidence and public speaking abilities. The top two girls from each class were then sent into the finals where they performed in front of their whole year group as well as three judges.
The judges were Head of English, Mrs Watts, Assistant Head Lower School, Mrs Eaves and Headmistress Mrs McKendrick.
In first place was Diana, second place Naiya and third place Izzy, who each won a copy of Yvette Cooper’s She Speaks. For first prize, Diana won a marshmallow Jellycat.
All of the speeches were incredibly inspiring, well written and beautifully spoken, they should all be proud!
