This October, a group of geography students visited Iceland to study its landscapes and geological features.

The trip began at the Secret Lagoon, Iceland’s oldest natural hot spring, where we observed geothermal activity. We then explored the Golden Circle, including Gullfoss waterfall and the Strokkur geyser. At Thingvellir National Park, students saw tectonic plates meet and looked into one of the park’s fissures. That evening, we had the opportunity to see the northern lights.

On day two, we visited the Lava Centre to learn about Iceland’s volcanic activity. We then saw Skógafoss waterfall and walked along Reynisfjara’s black sand beach, with its basalt columns and sea stacks. At Sólheimajökull glacier, students observed glacial features, and later we walked behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall.

The final day included a visit to Natthagi Valley, crossing lava fields, and a stop in Reykjavik before exploring the Raufarholshellir Lava Tunnel.

The students were attentive and engaged throughout the trip, with their interest and teamwork making the visit smooth and enjoyable.

Overall, the trip offered a practical look at Iceland’s geology, glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls.
