Downe House was delighted to host again this year’s Discover Teaching event on Wednesday evening, welcoming local people interested in moving into the education sector. In partnership with The Downs School (The Downland Alliance) and Bradfield College, the event offered an accessible and friendly introduction to the many pathways into teaching for those with a degree or currently studying for one.
Visitors had the opportunity to hear from professionals across both the state and independent sectors who have successfully switched careers into teaching. Their insights helped shine a light on the rewards, challenges and real impact of the profession. Guests were also able to speak directly with staff from each school, ask questions, and learn more about routes such as teacher training, school-based roles and specialist subject pathways.
Alongside conversations and networking, attendees enjoyed refreshments courtesy of our fantastic catering team and were invited to sign up for future lesson observations and updates about upcoming vacancies in local schools. One attendee remarked:
It was both useful, insightful and for someone like myself who would not be coming from a classical teaching background… reassuring!
The event created a warm, encouraging space for anyone considering a future in education, and we were thrilled to help support the next generation of teachers in our community.
