Alumnae Reunion in Northern Ireland

The first in a series of regional reunions planned by the DHSA and the Foundation Office took place in the spectacular Grey Abbey House and Gardens on the beautiful Ards Peninsula in County Down, which is only open for groups by arrangement.

Pupil-led Eco-Committee aims for Eco-Schools Award

A pupil-led Eco-Committee is being set up to join the global initiative and work towards achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award by July 2020. The Eco-Schools Programme is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and is designed to encourage whole-school action on sustainable development and foster environmental awareness and action within the school community.

With the aim of developing opportunities to pursue new and exciting avenues of study beyond the curriculum, the now well-established Elective Programme offered a group of Lower Sixth girls the chance to produce their very own Elective MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).

Australian Exchange Experience

As professional development opportunities go, a staff exchange with a school in Australia has to be an attractive proposition for anyone and Miss Kayleigh Anger, Head of Drama (Curriculum) jumped at the chance and set off for the Methodist Ladies College in Melbourne for three weeks during the summer holidays.

GCSE Results 2019

Today saw the publication of this year’s I/GCSE results. 84% of all grades achieved were A*-A (grade 9-7) and 1 in 4 girls achieved an outstanding grade 9 A* (grade 9-8) or above.

The biennial AGS House trip to Myanmar gave girls and staff the opportunity to meet the children that their fundraising efforts for their House Charity, Hope Asia are helping and to see the sights of this beautiful country.

A Level Results 2019

Downe House is celebrating this year's Upper Sixth. With 86% of girls achieving A** to B grades (or equivalent), these results show a consistently high level of performance by this years’ Upper Sixth.

Bread & Beyond

Sourcing food locally is a high priority for the Catering Department at Downe House and when the invitation came to support neighbouring Prior's Court School at the same time, Catering and Events Manager, Mrs Sarah Dyson jumped at the opportunity.

A group of 17 girls from Aisholt House set off for India to visit their House charity, Reality Gives which they have supported with fundraising events throughout the year and to see the sights of the Golden Triangle.

Throughout the year, Holcombe House supports its House charity, Open Arms Malawi with fundraising events and the biennial House Trip to Malawi gave the girls the opportunity to see the work of the charity for themselves and to experience the country known as the ‘warm heart of Africa’.

Leavers’ Day 2019 a huge success!

Leavers, their parents and staff enjoyed a fabulous day of celebrations starting with their last ever assembly and a procession through the School led by a Scottish bagpiper and finishing with the Leavers' Ball held at the Westminster Boating Base in London.
