Preparing girls for the best universities and businesses in the world

CareersNo matter which profession or career path they ultimately choose, Downe House girls typically achieve great things. For example, many former pupils are making a significant contribution in the fields of medicine, engineering, science, media, academia, business, finance, sport, art, politics and law. To help each girl identify her strengths and not be hindered by her weaknesses, we have put in place a comprehensive higher education programme that begins in Remove (Year 7) and builds progressively throughout the School years, with a four year programme supporting the girls from Lower Fifth through to Upper Sixth years (Years 10 13).

The programme includes one to one guidance sessions, workshops on UCAS and personal statements, talks on student finance and surviving the first year at university, the i2i programme (internships and work placements at top businesses) and our popular Oyster Society evening talks from external speakers (alumnae, parents and others ) about a wide variety of careers and university/course related topics.

The majority of girls apply to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities as well as overseas universities in the USA, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong and Europe. A specialist team runs a comprehensive programme for Oxbridge and Medicine Applications. We also provide specialised guidance for girls wishing to pursue a more creative route such as Art Foundation, Drama/Acting and Music. When girls leave Downe House they are still fully supported by our excellent "Post Applicants" programme where they can still receive the same level of careers advice and guidance as they did when they were in School.
