The Tutorial System
"My favourite lessons are Chemistry, English, History, Geography and Biology. I enjoy these lessons because I love trying out new experiments in Chemistry, finding new places around the world, learning about what is inside me, creating new stories, using my imagination and learning about different ages." Lucy Goodman
The high levels of support that Downe House girls receive is not simply reflected through outstanding pastoral care. Through regular meetings with a dedicated tutor, they also benefit from knowing that someone is always on hand to talk to about lessons, learning and all other aspects of school life.
Carefully chosen to form a strong bond with their students, tutors help oversee academic progress. They assist with workload, homework and revision planning. Representing their charges, they even act as an impartial student – teacher go-between, should an additional viewpoint ever be required.
Most important of all, however, by working with you and your daughter’s housemistress, her tutor will ensure she gets the very most from her days at Downe House.
Upon joining the Sixth Form, each girl benefits from an individually assigned personal tutor – usually a teacher with similar interests – for constant support and guidance during A-level and Pre-U study, and assistance with university applications.
