On Friday, 25th January, Music Matters at Downe House hosted a recital by the internationally acclaimed VIDA Guitar Quartet: Mark Eden, Chris Stell, Helen Sanderson and Mark Ashford.
The audience was treated to an enriching and varied programme of music which embraced a range of styles: Manuel de Falla’s “Miller’s Dance” from the “Three Cornered Hat”, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”, a selection of English Dances by Malcolm Arnold, David Crittenden’s “Scottish Fantasy”, “Yiddish Dances” by Adam Gorb and the “Carmen Suite” by Bizet.
The sparkling vitality and passion of this quartet had the audience riveted to their seats, marvelling at the versatility of the guitar, the wizardry in the quartet’s tone control and the tightness of the ensemble. It was a thrilling evening’s entertainment, enjoyed by all who attended.
