On Sunday, 27th January a small group went on the first Sports Scholars’ trip to The Maxifuel Super Sixes National Indoor Hockey finals at Wembley, where a large majority of the GB Hockey Olympians congregated at a single venue performing in front of a crowd of more than six and a half thousands fans.
Under the Sports Mentoring Programme, our Sports Scholars are encouraged to plan, assess and evaluate their own training and sporting performance regularly. The School aims to support and extend their sporting development and to help them compete. One of the activities included within the Programme are “trips to sporting events that may inspire" our Scholars by watching the elite athletes performing at major competitions. It was a great day out and one girl wrote: “It was very interesting and inspiring to watch indoor hockey at that level. Two of us were lucky enough to go on the pitch at half time and play a quick game of inflatable hockey with two of the England players – our team lost but it was amazing to meet two professional players who contributed to England’s bronze medal at the Olympics this summer.
