Alexia Kirk, Helena Benthall and Brenda Njiru from the LVI led our visitors from Ludgrove and the Lower School Athenians/Officers in an exciting Debating / Mock United Nations workshop on 28 November.
The boys from Ludgrove joined the girls for a delicious supper and were given a Pre U style warm up task on assessing sources to get conversation flowing. They were tasked with preventing disaster in the fictional country of Kazach. “Bordering India and China, Kazach is an oil rich country with advanced nuclear facilities producing highly advanced weapons.” The evening finished with a short preparation time debate on combat lessons in schools and much to the relief of Mrs Gilpin-Jones, Mr Rory Darling and Mrs Caiger-Smith, the safety of staff was raised as a key point by the opposition. Calypso Carter was given an award for being the best debater and Hugo Rowse was given an award for the best future dictator (rather alarming for us all as his sister is in our UV!).
