On Sunday, 19 May, two of our most promising young singers took part in the Finals of the Berkshire Young Singer Competition, contributing to a gala performance given to a packed audience at the magnificent Reading Town Hall.
Having already progressed through the Preliminary and Semi-Final rounds, both girls had done extremely well even to reach this stage; they were among eighteen singers selected from over 300 entries.
The girls performed to a distinguished panel of Adjudicators, including Rebecca Lodge (a member of the BBC Singers) and noted opera conductor Robin Newton. We were thrilled that Janice Kwong (U4) was named the overall Berkshire Young Singer in the 13-15 age group whilst Emily Craig (U5) was placed Runner Up in an extremely competitive Senior Category (16-18). This is a huge achievement for both girls and a wonderful reflection of both their musicianship and their commitment and dedication to their singing.
