Palmer Society Repertory Choir Evensong

On Wednesday, 17 April, Repertory Choir sang a Choral Evensong in the School Chapel for the Palmer Society. The warm tone of Repertory Choir resonated through the Chapel and was much appreciated by our visitors.

As the congregation comprised of Old Seniors, one of whom was here during the Second World War, it was fitting that the choice of music should have a distinctly Downe House feel. The School Hymn and Olive Willis’ hymn, sung with gusto by all, framed the Service and the Canticles were composed for Downe in 2003 by Malcolm Archer.

The Responses were also composed by Malcolm Archer and the Anthem, I will sing with the Spirit, by John Rutter, had a distinctly Eastertide feel.

It was a wonderful way to start the Summer Term and Repertory Choir’s singing was much appreciated by all present.
