Mendelssohn “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

On Friday, 14 June, Junior Choral had the privilege of singing with Southern Sinfonia, a professional orchestra, under the baton of David Hill, one of the country’s most respected choral directors.

The programme was all by Mendelssohn and Junior Choral took the role of a chorus singing texts from Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. What a wonderful combination of great music and literature. It was so pleasing to see the girls make the most of this experience; it was clear from their faces that they were absorbed in Mendelssohn’s colourful writing.

The ninety girls in Junior Choral sang their parts from memory and their sound was well focused and musical. It was truly a pleasure to listen to their voices float over the orchestral playing. The future for Junior Choral is looking very bright and we look forward to more great things from them next year.
