Francesca Lahira (LIV) reports on a talk given this week:
On Wednesday, 13 March, Mandy Hickson came in to talk to us about her time in the RAF and how important perseverance and teamwork was in her career. She is now a motivational speaker, but was the second woman pilot to fly the multi-million pound fast-jets in the RAF.
Her speech was all about self-motivation, leadership, teamwork and overcoming hurdles in your way. She talked about how she failed her computer tests (which are necessary to get into the RAF) and how she persuaded them to take her on as a test-case.
She talked about her experiences in the ‘no fly’ zone in Iraq, and about the difficult decisions that are necessary for a leader to make. Her speech was very inspirational and all the girls enjoyed it immensely!
