‘Willy Wonka Day’ was the brainchild of outgoing Head and Deputy Seniors, Iona Loveridge and Jo Benthall. On Wednesday 21st March the school woke up to the sight of the cloisters lined with bunting and the grass covered in giant lollipops.
Sophie Harley organised the biggest and most impressive cake sale that Downe has ever seen and made a staggering amount of money for ‘Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity’. Lessons went on as per normal(ish) - girls were dressed as every character and in every colour imaginable and sweets were handed out wherever they went.
The cloisters exploded as an Easter egg hunt was announced and at 7pm the golden ticket finders (Lucia St Clair Erskine, Isa Conroy, Serena Ansell) and the winners of best costume (Katie Turton, Hester Wolton, Jean Campbell, Flossie Skinner and Flora Tiley) were announced. Popcorn was then handed round and the whole school watched ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. It was a lovely end to a lovely day.
