On Thursday, 14 March, a group of girls attended an Academy Conference in Twickenham. These events provide academically gifted students with a unique opportunity to meet and listen to top academics speak on a wide range of topics.
Keshya Rana reports on the day:
“The day consisted of four lectures and a debate on topics ranging from the physics behind rock music and the philosophy of the embryo to whether or not a snail has consciousness. The lectures were full of interesting facts and ideas and the speakers encouraged us to make links to our academic subjects and to wider issues and the impact they have on us all. My understanding of controversial topics, such as the termination of an embryo, was widened and enriched as the interactive nature of the talks helped us all to a deeper understanding of complex subject matter. It was an instructive and educational day and an excellent way to extend learning beyond a classroom. Our thanks go to Miss Anger and Mrs Caiger-Smith."
