Celebrity Chef Bake Off
This week, Downe House enjoyed the company of Daniel Galmiche, internationally renowned Michelin–starred chef from The Vineyard. Daniel, who regularly appears on television (BBC’s Saturday Kitchen with James Martin), was invited to Downe to be part of an exciting event.
Three pairs of sixth form girls were given two fabulous dishes to cook and serve within an hour. The two recipes, Cheese Soufflé and Chargrilled Chicken Salad, had been chosen from Daniel’s book ‘French Brasserie Cookbook’. No small challenge, and though nervous at first, the girls were quickly put at ease by this gracious gentleman. Then came the tasting and all the teams produced truly mouth-watering dishes. The winners by a very narrow edge were Odette Fothergill and Sami Debessai Corino, their perfectly balanced dressing being key to their success. Daniel felt that all the girls were to be congratulated for their marvellous effort, and signed personal copies of his ‘French Brasserie Cookbook’ for each team. Daniels’s warm and energetic presence made it a truly extraordinary experience.
