Our pastoral system is designed to encourage and support the development of each individual girl from the moment she arrives at school until the time when she leaves. We want to provide each girl with the skills and confidence which will help her to make the most of her time with us, at university and thereafter.
Your daughter's Housemistress will have an overview of her academic and pastoral development, but your daughter will also be supported by her Tutor and other members of the House team. In this way the girls develop relationships with a number of staff, which enables them to talk readily and resolve problems - however small or large.
The development of your daughter whilst she is at Downe House is based on a partnership between School and home. We actively encourage you to visit regularly, whether to watch sporting fixtures, dramatic productions or concerts or, if you are visiting her at the weekend, simply join us for lunch or supper in the dining room.
Whilst your daughter is in our care, we recognise the importance of regular communications between you and her. Every girl in the school has her own voicemail box number, so that you and others can leave messages for her at any time. She also has her own personal e-mail address and access to a number of telephones, which are situated in the girls' boarding Houses.
We welcome girls at 11+, 12+, 13+ and Sixth Form entry - offering appropriate Induction programmes at each stage. Every girl will be taken care of by a "Housemother", who will write to her in advance, greet her on her first day to help her orientate herself immediately, and support her until she feels settled.
The competition is open to all students in Year 12 and essay titles are set by Corpus Christi. Poppy will be attending the Prize Giving on 3 July.
Annie entered her design for her AS Level Product Design Resistant Materials coursework and has been selected as one of the 20 finalists. She will take her project and portfolio to the Finals, which will be held at Dulwich College in London on 20 June 2008.

Congratulations to Emma Powell (U5) who was selected for NYT's highly acclaimed acting course.
On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th March, Downe House hosted a charity fashion show. The events were organised by Rosie Fortescue, Georgiana Haig and Celia Thursfield, in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, raising a total of just over £5,500.
Gillian Clarke, renowned poet, who has written poetry and prose for children and adults, visited Downe House on Sunday, 16 March. Her poetry reading began with her first publsihed poem 'The Sundial' and the audience were immediately impressed by her passionate and erudite ideas......
Diane Louise Jordan, businesswoman and one of the most popular presenters of BBC One's Songs of Praise, gave a talk and answered questions about how her faith influences the way she conducts her own business life and on matters relating to business ethics and corporate social responsibility more generally.
