Entry at 11+ is via Common Entrance. However, if your daughter's school does not prepare her for Common Entrance, please do not worry. The syllabus mainly reflects national curriculum Key Stage 2 which all British based schools will cover. If you are in any doubt, please do get in touch.
Most girls who join at this stage are first time boarders.
Entry at 12+ is via the School’s own examination which is based on the National Curriculum.
Girls join at 12 for a variety of reasons; a number are first time boarders and some will have boarded before.
Entry at 13+ is as at 11+.
Girls joining at 13+ will either have completed their Prep School which goes up to 13 or they might have had two years at a Senior School as they may not have been ready for boarding at 11 +.
If your daughter's school finishes at 11+ then that often makes it easier. Most girls at this stage are first time boarders and they all learn about boarding life together. If your daughter's school goes on to 13 then you have the opportunity to enable her to reach the top of the School with all the privileges and responsibilities that that brings with it. Leaving prior to 13 may mean that she feels she has unfinished business left. However for some girls for a variety of reasons, they would like to or need to leave at 12. In the end, it has to be what is right for your daughter that matters. From Downe House's point of view, girls are welcomed at all three stages.
16+ - Entry at 16+ is via an entrance examination which is made up of two subject papers of your daughter's choosing (These will usually be two that your daughter would like to continue in the Sixth Form.), a general paper, an interview with the Headmistress and an interview with the Director of Studies and Head of Sixth Form.
Girls joining for the Sixth Form come for a variety of reasons but many come to gain experience of living away from home for the first time prior to going to university or to gain experience of a larger environment.

The competition is open to all students in Year 12 and essay titles are set by Corpus Christi. Poppy will be attending the Prize Giving on 3 July.
Annie entered her design for her AS Level Product Design Resistant Materials coursework and has been selected as one of the 20 finalists. She will take her project and portfolio to the Finals, which will be held at Dulwich College in London on 20 June 2008.
