Teaching and Learning
The School has an extensive and well equipped range
of classrooms, specialist studios and laboratories;
whether it is for foreign language study or for the
study of a sphere of science.
Sport
An array of built facilities and extensive playing fields
further enhance the sporting lives of girls at Downe;
an indoor swimming pool, squash courts, gymnasium, tennis
courts as well as an all weather pitch, all contribute
to a rich agenda of sporting activities.
Creative and Performing Arts
Facilities to cover the needs of girls with varied talents
are readily at hand and include a professionally equipped
performing arts centre together with specialist studios
for a varied programme of dance and music classes.
Girls can demonstrate their artistic talents
in specialist art based facilities which include pottery
and ceramics. Practical skills such as cookery, photography,
metal and wood work are all provided for with well equipped
facilities within the Design & Technology department.
The Houses
The pastoral care for girls is exemplary and we pride
ourselves in providing a 'home' environment away from
home. Our boarding houses offer the security and comfort
needed after a busy School day and form the individual
communities where lifelong friendships flourish.
Meal Times
With a demanding daily academic and sporting programme,
meal times are an important part of School life. A balanced
and healthy yet interesting catering provision is provided
by a professional catering company in two dining rooms;
one serving the needs of our sixth formers.
The School's estate is continually evolving
to expand and improve upon the provision of facilities
for the girls. Whilst we continue with our programme
of refurbishing and upgrading our current facilities,
Downe House Trust's 21st Century Appeal looks to the
future expansion of the School's facilities, ensuring
the School continues to provide the very best of academic,
pastoral and sporting facilities.
