Working at Downe House
"Treat everyone, whether younger
or older, with the same kindness and respect with which
you yourself would wish to be treated" - School
Code of Conduct
This statement from the School's Code
of Conduct is as true of the girls who board here as
it is for the staff who work here. From initial contact
during Recruitment through to the New Staff Day in June
and beyond, employees at Downe House are welcomed, listened
to and supported throughout the course of their career
at the School. As we want the best for our girls, we
want the best for our staff.
As part of the Recruitment Process, prospective
employees must successfully pass an Enhanced Level Criminal
Records Bureau Disclosure Check, a Health Assessment
(which may involve a medical examination) and provide
two appropriate employment references in order to be
offered a position at the School. All new staff receive
a comprehensive induction programme and regular one-to-one
meetings with their line manager as they settle into
their new role. Staff development and training are supported
and encouraged; staff will go through regular reviews
of their performance with their line manager ensuring
open and constructive dialogue and thereby reinforcing
the School's ethos that "everyone matters".
The main School site is located on Cold
Ash Ridge, approximately 6 miles from Newbury; there
is also a satellite school in the Dordogne for all girls
in Year 8. The School site extends over 110 acres of
meticulously kept woodland and parkland, and offers
a beautiful working environment for all those employed
here. Downe House has its own salary scale and offers
a competitive benefits package. All staff can expect
to be involved in the day-to-day life of this busy and
successful independent girls' boarding school, with
activities ranging from the annual staff Fun Day in
the Summer holiday to evening theatrical productions
held in the School's own Performing Arts Centre throughout
the year.
