A school with Christian values
Whilst girls of all faiths attend Downe House, a Christian ethos pervades throughout the school.
This is centred around the belief that we should treat others as we, ourselves, should be treated.
Respecting all beliefs, we provide girls with the opportunity to attend either a school assembly or service in our school Chapel before each day’s lessons commence. Sunday services follow the rites of the Church of England. Visiting preachers provide thought-provoking sermons and each week there is a voluntary service of Holy Communion in addition to separate Chapel services for the Upper and Lower schools.
Around fifty girls are prepared for confirmation each year, with separate arrangements being made for Roman Catholic girls to enable them to attend mass at a local church if they wish to do so. |
